Any ARHS students interested in attending Northampton Pride, our local LGBTQ pride festival should come to the parade in Northampton on Saturday! It kicks off at 11 a.m. from Old South Street, goes through Main Street, and ends at the fair grounds, with events occurring until 5 pm. You can get more info at nohopride.org.

All students or staff interested in the Sene-Gambian Scholars program please come to Room 225 (Mr Kropf's room) after school on Monday 5/7 for some information about the program. We will be hosting visitors from Senegal and The Gambia next Spring, and we plan to visit West Africa again in 2020. Snacks and food order forms for the upcoming fundraiser will be available!

Do you have any gently used books for K-12 students at home you would like to donate? International Student's Club is sponsoring a book drive for schools in Malawi, a small nation in Southeast Africa. Drop off books in the cardboard box by the main office this week. Ask Dalitso Banda or Ms. Piccozzi if you have any questions.

Any current 10th or 11th grade student interested in pursuing Dual Enrollment at Greenfield Community College or Holyoke Community College next year needs to meet with their guidance counselor by May 11th to begin the process. Dual Enrollment allows students to fulfill their high school requirements at one of these two community colleges. Please make an apt with your counselor asap to take next steps.

Next week will begin AP exams. Test takers, please inform your teachers in advance that you will miss class and make arrangements with a classmates to get handouts, notes and homework assignments.

Wednesday is the last Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day for this school year.

Please support the POCU Bake Sale after school.

On days when it is warm, not raining, and we have available staff, you may enjoy your lunch outdoors, just outside the cafeteria. Please respect our environment and our great maintenance staff by remembering to pick up and dispose of your litter. And thanks to our PGO for the new outdoor lunch tables.

The SeneGambian Scholars club will be running another food sale - West African meals will be available for take out on Friday May 18th. Current SeneGambian scholars - please stop by Mr. Kropf's room this week to pick up order forms. Prospective members can also start fundraising with this food sale. There will be an informational meeting on Monday May 7 for any students or teachers interested in joining the club and possibly travelling to Senegal and The Gambia in 2020.

Westfield State University is offering high school students a SAT Summer Institute beginning July 30th through August 2nd.

This provides 20 hours of classroom instruction. The cost is $499.

Registration for the course is at www.westfield.ma.edu/testprep. There are flyers in the Guidance Office.

Come hear the Chorale in their Spring Concert this Tuesday, May 1st! It will be taking place at South Congregational Church in Amherst at 7 p.m. There will be refreshments afterward! Admission is free, though donations are accepted.

The ARHS 3v3 basketball tournament will be Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30pm in the highschool gym. Sign-ups are open until Wednesday. The cost is $15 per team, to be paid at start of tournament. See Peter Treyz to sign up and win a trophy!

Seniors - the deadline for the Francis E Hart Scholarship is May 1st which is next Tuesday.

This scholarship goes to one boy and one girl who have had to work really hard through high school , "to the utmost of their capacity", showing industriousness even if they have not earned really high grades. The only requirement to apply is a one page essay explaining your circumstances. A selection committee of your classmates will confidentially read your essays to determine the winners. You may get an essay prompt in the Guidance Office.

Student Ambassadors for Step-Up Day on Friday. Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25th, you will need to attend a mandatory information session in Rm 161 during your lunch period. Get your lunch and come immediately to Rm 161 to meet with Ms. Alschuler.

Congratulations to Chorale and Hurricane Singers for their great performances at last Saturdays' Local Vocal Chord Bowl acapella benefit concert. Along with adult and college groups, our ARHS singers helped raise over $4000 for music programs here at ARHS and at Northampton High School. The incredible one-woman play Natural Shocks was written in response to the senseless gun violence in this country and its connection to toxic masculinity. An event at Northampton High School on April 20th (Friday of break) at 7 pm will put on this play followed by musical performances featuring choir students from ARHS as well as NHS. Tickets can be bought at the door and will serve as donations to Everytown for Gun Safety/Moms Demand Action. For more information, see Eliza Carson.
