Community Day

• Today is Community Day and we will be following a special schedule. Classes A,B,D & E will meet followed by an Advisory and Outside Activities.

• The Sene-Gambian Scholars Program will have its first meeting of year on Tuesday, September 17, at 2:30 in Room 147. Come learn about Africa and maybe go there next spring!

• Are you interested in STEM? Want to be part of a team, win competitions, add to your college applications, and have a ton of fun? Then join the Science Olympiad! Come to the informational meeting on Tues, Sept. 17 at 2:30 in Room 225 to learn more about this national organization!

• September 23, 2019, is the Puerto Rico Day Celebration and we are encouraging students to participate in the celebration.  If you would be interested in performing or speaking at the event, please contact Mildred Martinez or Marta Guevara at the Middle School in the ARPS Family Center.

• Good morning - All students in your grade are members of the class council.  Each class council has class leaders. As the leader of a class, you are responsible for working closely with the school administration and speak on the student's behalf;  assist with upholding the core values of the school community; assist with decisions that are pertinent to your particular grade; promote harmony with your grade and other grades. You are able to better the school environment and do community service to help the broader community and make decisions on fundraising in a goal toward a terrific prom, scholarships and a class gift to the school. This week, he will be featuring Harvest Muffins, made with local zucchini and carrots! All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to try a sample and provide feedback.

This week, he will be featuring Harvest Muffins, made with local zucchini and carrots! All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to try a sample and provide feedback.

• There will be a meeting for all Club and Class Student Leaders today 9 at 2:45 in room 117.  Please have at least one rep present.  We will be discussing the sprucing of our bulletin boards and the upcoming activities fair.
• We are still in need of staff who are willing to advise the following clubs/activities: Class of 2021, 2022 and 2023, and Anti Semitism Awareness. Please speak to or email Liz Haygood at haygoode@arps.org.
• There will be a meeting for all advisors (and those interested in advising) on Thursday September 19 at 2:45 in room 117.

• Ms. Cuffee-Gray is going to be in the Cafeteria for informal conversations about college planning and Life After ARHS conversations one lunch period a day. Seniors know that they must submit their "Senior Questionnaire for College Conference 2020" for their formal Senior College Planning Meetings and Counselor Recommendation meetings. Open to students grades 9-12Come and say, "Hello!" and chat and chew about college and Life After ARHS with Ms. Cuffee-Gray.

• Last call to get involved in Bing Bong! - the Theater Company's first production of the year!  Aspiring techies and actors: meet after school this Thursday in the auditorium.  Techies will be done by 4:00; actors will be done at 5:00 .  Bing Bong is an epic immersive production that takes place around various corners of ARHS, designed for 1-2 audience members at a time - don't miss out!  No cuts to the cast or tech - and a perfect show for newcomers to join in, even if you've never set foot in a theater before.

• In October ARHS will be hosting students from Australia. We are still in need of 2 more host families. The dates of the visit are: October 2nd - October 5th. Any questions, please see Mr. Sadiq. Thank you.

• The library is closed to students during the academic day until tomorrow, September 4th. Beginning Wednesday, students are responsible for coming to the library with an academic assignment and a pass signed by both an academic teacher and your Directed Study teacher in order to use the library during a Directed Study period. Students with questions about this policy should see Ms. Stocker in the library. We are also open before and after school beginning this week and for the rest of the school year from 7:15-4 pm M-Th and 7:15-3 on Friday. Come by and say hi!

• The Theater Company is excited to invite everyone ever to the AUDITIONS for Bing Bong!  - this year's immersive theater production, going up in October.  This will not be a traditional audition, but more of a workshop to get us going on the work itself.  And guess what?  There are NO CUTS for this show.  If you want in and can commit, you're in!  To get involved, come to the 3-5pm workshop either this Tuesday, September 3, or Thursday, September 5 in the auditorium.  See Mr. Bechtold with any questions.

• Senior Survey in Naviance - Ready to meet with the ARHS College & Career Advisor for your Senior Meeting? Ready to sit with your Guidance Counselor so that they can write your college recommendation? All seniors must complete the "Senior Questionnaire for College Conference 2020" in Naviance first. Please encourage your parents/guardians to set up a Naviance account and complete the "Parent/Guardian Survey 4 Senior College Conference" as well. This helps your counselor write a great recommendation for you. Questions? See Miss Garrity or Ms. Cuffee-Gray.

• Lime Green Forms - The Class of 2020 is already breaking records handing in the LIME GREEN FORM that allows ARHS to send your academic materials (transcripts and recommendations) in to the colleges and universities that you are applying to. Please be sure to complete your form and get it in to Miss Garrity in Guidance.

• Diversity Fly-In Opportunities - Travel to College Campuses! -A number of colleges provide Travel Vouchers or Diversity Fly-Ins Events. These programs provide funding that allows students to travel to more remote campus locations and stay overnight. Deadlines are quickly coming up.
