It’s no longer on the front pages of our newspapers, but the horrific civil war in Syria continues.  Now in its 7th year, nearly half a million people have been killed and over 12 million Syrians (50% of the pop) have been displaced from their homes.   1,000s of men, women, and children have “disappeared” into the secret network of detention centers run by the Syrian gov’t. ARHS students have organized a two-day event for the HS community to learn more:  on Thursday, September 28, the acclaimed documentary “Syria’s Disappeared,” will be shown after school in room 325.  The film focuses on the stories of several of those who have “disappeared” and the fight for justice.   After school on Monday, October 2, in room 325, Mazen al-Hamada, one of the imprisoned men in the film, will be here to talk to students about his experience and answer questions.  He will be joined by Mouaz Moustafa, the director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force in DC.   A trailer for the film can be seen: http://syriasdisappeared.com/

For the first time in more than three years, the theatre company is putting on a play by Shakespeare! On Monday and Tuesday, come to the auditorium and audition for Henry IV, Part I, a play about leadership, war, honour, and growing up. If possible, memorize a bit of the play to recite in your audition; if you can't, come anyway - we've got you covered. Don't miss the chance to take part in one of the most ambitious plays of the year! Contact Louis Triggs for details.

Spirit Week  Begins Monday Sept. 25th and ends Friday, September 29th.
