A moment in Black History submitted by Simone Robinson
Fred Hampton -
Fred Hampton was an American activist and revolutionary socialist. Fred Hampton was an active youth leader in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He joined the Black Panther Party in November 1968 and quickly became chairman of the Illinois chapter of the party. Hampton’s activism and leadership made him an FBI target. So in December 1969, tragically, Fred Hampton, 21, and Mark Clark, 22, were killed and several others were seriously wounded by police officers as they lay sleeping in their Chicago apartment. The 14 police officers fired 99 times and none of the police officers were injured when they executed a search warrant to turn up weapons and explosives that they alleged the Black Panthers were hoarding inside. In 1983, a federal judge approved a settlement that awarded $1.85 million to survivors of the raid and families of the two men who were killed, to be paid by the federal government, the city of Chicago, and Cook County State Attorney’s Office. Malcolm X said “The Black Panther Party had dynamic leadership that drew people to it, and Fred Hampton was a wonderful example of that. He would have made a wonderful leader.”

- Class of 2022 -If you have not received a couple of emails from Your Friendly Neighborhood College and Career Advisor, Ms. Cuffee-Gray, it is likely that your Naviance emails are heading straight to your spam folder. In a reality that is incredibly frustrating and inefficient, the @arps.org system designates Naviance as SPAM. You need to go into your email settings and designate emails from Naviance as something you want to receive. This is called "whitelisting" (why is it "whitelisting" and "blacklisting"? hmmmm...), and you'll begin receiving all my little love notes about preparing for Life After ARHS. Cheers - Ms. DCGOn another note, it seems I misdirected juniors regarding the 54/22 question survey that is required of you to set up a meeting with me. Not a mean trick, just a mistake. Here's what you should do:1. Go to "About Me" in your Naviance account (upper right tab);2. The dropdown list there has "My Surveys"3. Choose what is appropriate for youThat should take care of it.Here's a video
