    Day 7
    D Period Lunch
    Drop F

  • Are you a sophomore or junior interested in perusing a STEM degree?  Then the UMASS Shadow Day might be for you.  Attend a free dinner on March 26th where you will hear presentations from UMASS STEM students.  Then visit UMASS on April 3rd, attend classes, visit STEM labs and get a free lunch!   See your science teacher for more information and a permission slip.  Permission slips should be turned into Mr. Woodruff in room 227.  Space is limited and students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
  • Reminder - Spring Strength & Conditioning starts April 1st. Please sign up through FamilyID before the end of the month if you'd like to participate in this after school program.  Check in with the health room to see about your eligibility to participate.  Don't forget to take care of the participation fee for this program.

  • IMPORTANT MCAS INFORMATION: On Tuesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 28, all ARHS 10th Graders will take the MCAS Next Generation English Language Arts tests.  The tests will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m. on both days.  Students not participating in MCAS will have late arrival at 10:45 a.m. on testing days. There will be no access to the 3rd floor during testing time.  Special information for 10th grade students:  This year, for the first time, the high school will be participating in Next Generation MCAS on-line testing.  This testing app is only accessible on school-owned chrome books.  Each student is responsible to bring a fully charged, school-provided chrome book and charger with them on both days of testing.   If you who have not been assigned a chrome book (because you chose to use your personal computer), you are responsible to check-out a school device from the Writing Center (room 141) no later than the end of the school day on Friday, March 22.  A test room list is posted on the bulletin board in the front lobby today.  Check this list to find out in which classroom you will be testing.  It is very important that you arrive on time on testing days and report directly to your assigned room.  You may bring school work or books in a subject area other than English to work on after you have completed and handed in your testing materials.  Remember: be sure to get a good night’s rest, and eat a healthy breakfast each morning!
  • "The Class of 2021 is hosting a movie night next Friday, March 29th at 7:30 in the auditorium! If you would like to vote for the movie that we show, be sure to fill out the survey that will shortly be arriving in your email. Thank you!
  • Job opportunity: Student Painters is seeking folks age 16+ to begin doing marketing! You'll need your own vehicle or access to one and a smartphone. They are looking for folks who are able to work at least 3 days a week from 4-7pm to do door-to-door marketing and sales. Wages are $12/hour plus a $2 commission bonus for each sale. Contact Luke Chase at 774-444-0261 to book an interview! Flyers available in Guidance.
  • Students wishing to use the library during lunch should come prepared with quiet academic work and should plan to eat in the cafeteria before coming to the library. Due to an increase in trash being left in the library, food is not permitted at any time unless eaten in the designated round sofa area. Thank you for helping us keep our library clean and open to students throughout the day!
  • Students Interested in Taking a College Class: If you indicated, during course registration that you are interested in taking a college class next year, while in high school, your A Period Teacher will have an application with your name on it tomorrow morningPlease pick it up from your teacher. You do not need to print the attachments      here...they are just back up in case you lose your hard copy. To search for courses in the Amherst College Course scheduler, make sure you set the semester to Fall 2019 and enter search term (s). Results appear below--you have to scroll to see them. Applications will be due April 12th, the day before our spring break.  Mr. Sadiq will hold a brief informational meeting, after school on April 11th, for students planning on taking a college course next year. Please plan to attend, and if your application is ready then, we'd love it if you turned it in early. Two notes:
1. For those planning on MVC at Amherst College for math next year, we will select which section, based on meeting the rest of your HS needs and based on giving everyone access to the course. Seniors will be prioritized.  On your application, please list your first and 2nd choices.

2. We are giving you the application, now that AC has their course schedule up, so that you can see what the options might be.  You can look and explore on-line at this time, using the link to the course scheduler above; please do not approach professors for permission to enroll until after ARHS has spring break and after you have the high school permission form in hand (which we will distribute on your first day back from break).  Mr. Sadiq will explain next steps at the meeting, if you still have questions after reading the instructions attached to the application.  Look for classes toward the end of the day...a 12:30 class will require 3 blocks of time, a 1:30 class will require 2 blocks of time.
  • Any student wishing to serve on the jury for the Student Written Play Festival should contact Mr. Bechtold in person to complete a brief but important application.  We'd love a jury with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences with theater, including having some less-experienced people on board.  Stop by the auditorium if you're interested!
  • All Vehicles parked on school grounds should have a current parking permit or risk being towed. We will be checking for parking permits starting the week of March 25th. It will cost approximately $125 to retrieve a towed vehicle.
  • Attention all ARHS writers! The Minks submissions will be closing for publication soon! If you have a poem, a short story, an essay, or any piece of writing that you're proud of and would like to see published, email it to minks@arps.org. The deadline for all submissions is April 30th.
  • Seniors: Applications for the ARHS local scholarships are due on Monday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m.  So far, only one student has applied at scholarships@arps.org.  Unless you submit your own applications, she will walk away with a lot of money.  You received the booklet of scholarships and the application on Feb. 26 in an e-mail from Ms. Ross.  Please apply!
  • Those seeking scholarships should also check Naviance frequently as Miss Garrity updates it often.
  • Hey!  Anyone can submit a play for the Student-Written Play Festival - that means you!  There's two categories: 10-minute and 1-minute plays.  They can be serious, hilarious, stupid, whatever you like.  Just submit them by March 30.  Details are on a handout on the auditorium doors - or see Mr. Bechtold for details
  • Support the ARHS SENE-GAMBIAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM by ordering WEST AFRICAN TAKE-OUT MEALS! Hot meals (in microwavable containers) will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, March 26, at the side entrance, by the athletic fields, 3-5 p.m. Choices include vegetarian and chicken dishes. You can pick up an order form in the office or order online at tinyurl.com/WestAfricanMeals.
  • Interested in auditioning for Chorale or Hurricane Singers next year? Sign up for an audition time outside of the choir room. It’s low stress and requires no preparation! There are times available after school on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26. See Mr. Fruth for more details.
