    ·         Today's Black History Month moment is brought to you by Layla D-A:

Bayard Rustin was a civil rights, socialist, nonviolence, and LGBT rights activist.  In 1941, Rustin collaborated with A. Philip Randolph in planning the March on Washington Movement to demand an end to racial discrimination in the workplace. Rustin's preparation of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was one of his most famous contributions to the Civil Rights Movement! One of his very famous quotes was “we need, in every community, a group of angelic troublemakers.'' Another was “let us be enraged by injustice, but let us not be destroyed by it ''. These quotes were so powerful for their time, not just cleverly worded but very true. When we as a community get enraged about a topic we are made out to be seen as uncivilized, but yes, we have a right to be upset and outraged by injustice and all the ways we are mistreated as people of color, and we have a right to express the outrage. Although Rustin had many accomplishments throughout his lifetime it is sad that he is not as well-known as other Black heroes because he is just as important as someone like Ruby Bridges or Malcolm X! He helped to organize a lot of the big protests we learn about in history class yet his name is never mentioned. He passed away on August 24, 1987 in New York.
