- National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 and ends on October 15. In honor a Fun Fact about Hispanic Heritage will be placed in the Afternoon Announcements.. We will also be sharing announcements submitted by students about influential Latinx People.
- Today's Fact- “Hispanic” and “Latino” mean different things according to the National Hispanic Heritage Month website, the month aims to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.The label “Hispanic” refers to people who speak Spanish and/or are descended from Spanish-speaking populations. This is contrasted by “Latino” (or Latina or Latinx), which refers to people who are from or descended from people from Latin America.
- Attendance Tip of the Day #6 If you miss a total of 20 minutes or more during a single class period, then your attendance is counted as a full class absence.
- Model UN will be meeting this Wednesday at 3:45 in Ms. Bourbeau’s room (325) for a debate. There will be snacks! Even if you’ve never come before, we’d love to see you come this Wednesday! Math Competitions: Are you a problem solver? It is time to sign-up for the Fifty-Eighth Annual Mathematics Olympiad Competition that takes place on Thursday, October 21st. Start time is 8:45 am. Topics covered are Number Theory, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. It is a 90-minute multiple choice test. Some take it for fun, others take it to put their scores on their college applications, and some take it to win prizes. To see if this interests you, visit the website http://www.maml.org to see past competition questions and solutions. You can still sign up on this Google Form until October 15th. There are 40 slots so first come, first serve.
American Mathematics Competition (AMC) : The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) takes place on Wednesday, November 10th. There are two levels of math contests, AMC 10 includes Algebra and Geometry topics and the AMC 12 includes Precalculus topics. To see if you are interested, visit the website AMC Problems Sign up on this Google Form until November 1st. There are 20 slots for each test so first come, first serve.
- College and Career Planning Coming Up!
Seniors: Cap & Gown measurements will be taken next Tuesday and Wednesday, October 5 &6 during all lunches. This is the only time the company will be here for measurements, so be sure to take care of this important step. The cost for cap & gowns this year is $19 and they will be set up outside the cafeteria. Extra tassels and 2022 keychains will also be sold at that time at a cost of $4 and $7 respectively.
Seniors who are enrolled in honors English classes in second semester must complete the honors project if they apply to college with honors English on their transcript. Please check your schedule to make sure you are enrolled in CP if you wish to be enrolled in CP or honors if you wish to complete the AP portfolio in English. You may not drop the honors designation after you apply to college with it on your transcript. Any changes should be made now with your guidance counselor before applications are sent out!
