  • It's Wellness Wednesday! This week our Wellness Wednesday Tip is: Mindfulness is a Superpower!

So what exactly is mindfulness? Mindfulness is intentionally being in the present moment with full awareness of oneself, others, and one’s surroundings without judgment. It can also be showing compassion for oneself and others.

What are some benefits of Mindfulness?

    ·         Lowers your blood pressure, heart rate, and stress.

    ·         Increases your ability to concentrate, improving critical thinking and decision making.

    ·         Decreases worry thoughts.

    ·         Increases listening skills.

So how do you practice Mindfulness?

    1.       Mindfully observe a familiar object: Notice things you have never noticed about that object (i.e. a plant). Be present and make some observations.

    2.       Fish Tank Mindfulness: Close your eyes & imagine you are at an aquarium. You’re standing in front of a fish tank looking in on the fish. The key thing to remember is that these fish will come & go & will swim past you eventually. However, they will always come by again. Imagine your emotions and thoughts are just like fish in that fish tank. Don’t label or judge your emotions or thoughts. Simply place them on the fish and watch them go, knowing they will come back again.

We also welcome ANYONE (teachers, staff, students, entire classes, clubs, etc!) to reach out to share ideas and tips, too. Email us! Michaela Paul (MSW Intern)  paulm@arps.org  OR Hannah (School Adjustment Counselor) carusoh@arps.org
