  • It's Wellness Wednesday!

This week our Wellness Wednesday Tip is: The Thinking-Feeling Connection!
People often believe that the emotions they experience are caused by external events, situations, or the behavior of others. For example, we may hear ourselves say, “The test MADE me so nervous,” “My friend MADE me so angry,” or “This weekend MADE me feel so relaxed." We come to these conclusions automatically. However, many emotions are set off by our thoughts and interpretations of events, not by the events themselves. So it wasn't the test that made you nervous, it was your thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions about the test. Examining our thoughts and checking the facts can help us change our emotions.  Ask: What are my interpretations, thoughts, and assumptions about the event? What does the evidence say about my assumptions? Are my  interpretations, thoughts, and assumptions about the event helpful right now? You might be surprised to find these questions help you feel better!
