  • Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday (11/16) the first period is B Period due to MCAS.
  • In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, POCU honors the many contributions of Indigenous Peoples:

Tommy Orange is an American novelist and writer from Oakland, California. He was born on January 19, 1982 and is a citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapho Tribes of Oklahoma. Growing up, he was more into sports than reading. From ages 14 to 24, Orange played roller hockey on a national level. He was educated at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in sound arts. He began working at a bookstore, Gray Wolf Books, where he developed a love for reading which led him to begin writing. Orange received the John Leonard Prize in 2018, awarded for an author’s first book in any genre. In 2019, Orange received the PEN/Hemingway Award, which is dedicated to first time authors of full-length fiction books, and the American Book Award, denoting "outstanding literary achievement". There There, his debut book, was also one of the finalists for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize. - by Courtneygail Rose

  • ARPS will be offering the official State Seal of Biliteracy to graduating seniors in spring of 2022, as well as Biliteracy Pathway Awards to students in grades 6 and 8. The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded by the state department of education and local school districts to recognize students who attain proficiency in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing), as well as one or more additional languages learned in school or another setting, as measured by standardized language assessments. This recognition will be included with students’ high school transcripts and diploma, and serves to certify attainment of a student’s biliteracy for employers and universities.

There will be an information meeting on the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy on Friday, November 19th, 2021 during all lunches in room 147. Presentations will be short so that you can go eat lunch outside. Come learn about this exciting opportunity. We will have pizza! Contact cisseo@arps.org if you have any questions. Merci!
