  • In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, POCU honors the many contributions of Indigenous Peoples:
Sequoyah, also known as Guess or George Gist, was an artist and a silversmith who created the syllables for the Cherokee language, making reading and writing in Cherokee possible. It took him 12 years to create it.  In 1824, the Cherokee nation awarded him a medal for his work.  It was one of the few times in recorded history that a member of a pre-literate people created an original, effective writing system. The Cherokee Nation began using his syllabary and officially adopted it in 1825, unifying a divided nation with new ways of communication and a sense of independence. Within 5 years, the Cherokee Nation literacy rate surpassed that of surrounding European Settlers. The Cherokee syllabary has had international influence as it is believed to have inspired the development of 21 known writing systems, used in a total of 65 languages in North America, Africa and Asia.

  • Calling all High School Seniors who are January graduates and may be interested in a post-secondary career in the medical field. GCC is currently offering a CNA training program starting in January 2022, for high school seniors that would like to enter the medical workforce right after graduation.
This 5-week training course is ideal for students who may be graduating early or only need a few elective credits to meet graduation requirements and could possibly take this certification course as an ALPs.

Once this training is completed, students will be Certified Nursing Assistants and will be eligible to work in various medical settings such as hospitals, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and at individual homes as an in-home health aid.

This is a great way to get your foot in the door if you are interested in the medical field and if you're looking to work immediately after graduation. This is also a great way to start a nursing career if you are interested in working in the field before committing to a two- or four-year program

The best part? It is 100% FREE!!!!
