Day 1- Dovetail For Music Alternate

  • College Admissions Exams
For the Class of 2022 - many, many selective colleges remain test optional for this admissions season. Some colleges and universities are test-optional for the duration due to philosophical reasons centering around access and equity  (UC System). This is a genuine reality, meaning you can choose whether or not to submit standardized tests to the schools that you are applying to. If you are interested in taking the SAT, you can sign up on College Board - https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/dates-deadlines. If you are interested in the ACT you can sign up using this link - https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html
Here a list of test optional schools - https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional.
Fee waivers are available for students who receive free or reduced lunch. See Ms. Garrity.

College Bound and College Curious juniors considering selective college admissions AND interested in taking the SAT in the spring of senior year, can consider taking the PSAT in October. There are many selective colleges that are genuinely test optional both before and after the reality of COVID - meaning that applicants can apply without submitting SAT or ACT scores. Here a list of test optional schools - https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional. Fee Waivers are available for students who receive free or reduced lunch, see Ms. DellaMarco in Room 207.
  • It's Wellness Wednesday!

Congratulations on making it through your first full week of school! You deserve a pat on the back! Last week, we encouraged you to notice and not judge your emotions as we returned to school. Now that you are noticing these things, This week's tip: Find your rhythm/build your routine

Creating a regular routine can work to help reduce stress levels, improve sleep patterns, and improve your overall physical and mental health. Take some time to notice what worked for you last week and what you might want to change.

This might include noticing that you might benefit from:

    • Going to sleep earlier or waking up a little earlier if able to do so.

    • Finding a morning routine before hopping on the bus or driving to school, which might allow for a moment to ground yourself before your busy day awaits.

    • Completing your homework or assignments at a specific time when you have more energy.

    • Planning out your schedule or making a list the night before school, which might help you know what to expect during the next day and upcoming deadlines/ events.

    • Perhaps listening to some music while you work on homework or knowing that you need to find a quiet time to complete your work, which will help you stay focused in that moment.

    • Or maybe noticing that you need some time to unwind after a full day of school and work by doing a fun activity if able to do so (talking with family or friends, walking a pet, listening to music, watching a favorite show, doing a hobby)!

It is important to note that everyone is different, thus all of our morning, day, and evening rhythms and routines will look quite different based on what works for each of us! Taking a moment to reflect on how you are feeling, what you need in the moment and future, and prioritizing things that need to be accomplished are some first steps to identifying a rhythm that will work for you!

We also welcome ANYONE (teachers, staff, students, entire classes, clubs, etc!) to reach out to share ideas and tips, too.
